Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

If you wish to request repeat medication, please visit our Prescriptions and Medicines Centre.

Please allow two working days, excluding weekends and bank holidays, for your request to be processed. If you have any problems, please contact the practice.

We do not take repeat prescription order requests by phone.

SystmOnline

You may also request repeat prescriptions if you are registered to use our online services, SystmOnline. If you are not yet registered, please register for our online services.

If you are requesting a medication that is not on your repeats list, there is a box that allows you to free type in what you require.

Pharmacy Service

We encourage patients to contact their preferred local pharmacy, if they offer a collections scheme. You can contact them and they will arrange collection from the surgery and have it ready for you to collect. There are also pharmacies that offer home delivery.

Alternatively, if your preferred pharmacist is unable to offer the collection service they will often arrange with us to place orders on your behalf. This should be discussed with them. We are working closely with pharmacists so patients can have a better service.

Advantages of a collections or pharmacist scheme for the patient include:

  • The prescription will be ready for you to pick up when you collect from the participating chemist, and you should not have to wait since the chemist will be expecting you.
  • Chemists generally offer a home delivery service, where appropriate.
  • This approach will save you an extra trip to the surgery to collect the prescription. If you have any questions, please contact the practice for advice and we will point you in the right direction.

Prescription Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive governments have thought it reasonable to charge, for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

View the cost of prescriptions on the NHS website.
